    History

    October 8, 2007
We visited the facilities at Global Lighting Technologies. Their patented MicroLens technology allows them to design LED backlighting for LCDs that offers a higher brightness and more uniform illumination than most of their competitors. A link to the company’s website is on our local display companies page.

    Feb. 25, 2006
We visited Hana Microdisplay, Inc., which was established in August 1999 as a separately incorporated subsidiary of Hana Microelectric Group of Thailand specifically to purchase the Twinsburg, Ohio, factory of S-Vision. The facility was and remains the world’s leading independent assembler of Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCOS) reflective microdisplays. Our tour will be conducted by Jim Anderson, a graduate of the Liquid Crystal Institute who worked in the lab of Dr. Phil Bos. A link to the company’s website is on our local display companies page.

    Feb. 6, 2006
A great trip to a great liquid crystal technology company -- AlphaMicron, Inc.. Fifteen members participated in the tour, which was given by Dr. Jonathan C. Ruth. A link to the company’s website is on our local display companies page.

    Oct. 7, 2005
The very first student branch meeting was held.

    Oct. 1, 2005
This marks the establishment of the Kent State University Student Branch of the SID. We have strong support from the director of the Liquid Crystal Institute (LCI), Dr. Oleg. D. Lavrentovich. The missions and objectives of our organization are outlined in the bylaws, which can be found under the links menu.
